Had the pork tenderloin special and it was awesome, my wife had the lasagna and loved it. Whatever you do make sure you get the cherry gelato in chocolate dessert!

Positano's consistently delivers quality food & provides a good value for what you get. I have dined here over the past few years & have had many tasty dinners. Veal marsala is particularly memorable as well as the chicken parm which is an enormous serving. The house salad that is served with the meal is pretty big and the greens are very green and not iceberg lettuce. You can pay an additional $2 for the caeser which I did one night just to try it and it the dressing was great - not the traditional creamy type but since the house salad is such a great value, I see no need to pay the additional $2. The bread they serve comes with a special dipping oil as well. I have not tried the thin crust pizza but I have noticed a lot of people ordering it and it looks great! Happy hour meals are also served as well as happy hour on some drinks including Saturday night! A woman jazz singer is on Saturday nights - go check it out!

Food was excellent, but the service was awful! More than 30 minute between visits from waiter multiple times. All drinks, including water empty and couldn't get a refill. Empty plates on the table for long periods of time. After waiting more than 40 minutes for dessert and after complaining to the manager because the waiter was MIA again the dessert was sent out with no explanation or apology. Other tables were complaining about the service from the minute we arrived until we left. I would suggest ordering take-out and enjoying their awesome food without the hassle of bad service.

As a woman of strong faith I forgive but will NOT forget the fact that Positano's made charges on my husband's credit card without his consent on 6-27-14. That is plain & simple ILLEGAL! There is a long, winding story of loss of power/AC the night we dined, waitress "forgot" to add a few items on our bill, phone calls of the owner trying to justify the 3 (yes, 3) separate charges on my husband's Bank of America credit card. What he signed for was $157.83 with a $30 tip. What ended up being charged the 3rd time was $190.46 PLUS a $30 tip! That's 2 charges that were NEVER authorized or signed off by my husband. In addition, when I spoke to the owner on the phone on 6-28 she said it was only going to be the $190 & that would be the end of it. I asked her twice just to clarify the final charge of $190, that we were ok with the added fee for the food we did consume (although was it OUR fault the waitress forgot?!?!?), and were we done with the issue. She assured me that the $190 was the final cost. Not so much! A 3rd charge came on our account for the $190 but then there was a $30 tip included. WHAT!????!?!? We went from $187.83 to $220.46 . In the end, spoke with her again on 7-7-14 (they were closed for vacation for a week). Both my husband and I spoke with her on speaker. We said that what she did was illegal. We were NOT after free food and in fact were willing to even suck up the cost of the "mistake" made on our bill. If we wanted to we could have just left when the AC stopped & not eaten the ordered food at all. Every time we mentioned the illegal transaction she said she couldn't hear us or tried to change the subject. At the close, she offered to meet with us along with her husband about the matter but we were not going to spend a single minute more on this and let go, let God, & move on with our lives. They did send a $20 gift card but we won't be using it. Warning-food is undeniably good but ONLY PAY CASH!!!

Don't dare compare this place to Carraba's, or any other chain restaurant! The food is FAR superior and obviously made from scratch. Even the desserts tasted homemade. You will pay a little more, but the quality and service more than make up for this. My girlfriend and I happened upon this place while taking a beach trip to celebrate our birthdays. Not being from the area, I relied upon Yelp reviews to choose a restaurant and was SO surprised by this place. The strip-mall-esque location was a little off-putting, but the ambiance inside made up for the location. Plus, it seems there are very few stand-alone restaurants in Florida, that aren't chains, so I guess strip malls are the prime locations? Anyway, the food was phenomenal and I will find a way to make it back for dinner whenever I'm in the Tampa Bay area. Sincerely, it's that good. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I really don't like going to a strip mall for dinner, but without a little "main street" area in town, I suppose this is the norm?

We were looking for a nice non chain Italian dinner. We drive by Positanos twice a day and finally decided to give it a try. Glad we had a reservation because you need one. The decor was nice but not fancy. Service was prompt, professional and very personable. Our server Victor knew the menu well and helped us make great choices. The food was perfectly prepared and made to order. Nothing was prepared in advance. The portions were generous especially considering the main courses we ordered were shrimp and veal. Timing was just right, and everything was piping hot and attractively plated. They get the little details as well. The accompanying pasta was an appropriate sauce, not generic red. If you're a wino, the $15 corkage is very fair. Same for the rest of the pricing, very very fair. Overall an outstanding experience, we'll be back.

Being of Italian extraction and from New York, I judge an Italian restaurant initially by the quality of the bread and then the tomato sauce. Both stink at this place. Buy the bread at Publix, for goodness sake. The sauce tastes like thick, sour tomato paste. Dark dungeon atmosphere. Wouldn't go back.

I got the Vitello Saltimbocca alla Romana, which is veal sauteed in Marsala demi-glaze with fresh spinach and mozzarella, and topped with prosciutto crisps. It was good because all of the components are great (veal, mozzarella, etc.). It was on top of angel hair pasta, which is supposed to be hand-made (from the menu), it tasted straight from the box. I wasn't impressed by the pasta. They also brought bread out, but nothing to dip it in. The salads also came out by the time I got a chance to ask for it, so I just let it pass. They also seem very conflicted in the direction of their restaurant, at first it seemed like a higher-end Italian restaurant, but in the bar (where we were sitting) they had Family Guy and Seinfeld. I like both shows but not for an Italian Restaurant. It was also affordable.

This restaurant is an individually owned small dining restaurant. It is located in a strip mall which is higher class (in appearance)then most others here in Florida . It is nestled between Tampa Road and Lake St. George Boulevard. When you walk in the Decour is very much Italian with an upscale ambience. The restaurant is split into several sections which makes it more interesting. The hostess was very welcoming and nice and showed us where our party was. I went for a Christmas dinner function which was located in a private room in the back that holds approximately 30 people. The room was well decorated and the staff did a very good job keeping drinks full and the food coming. My friend got shrimp penne pasta with a vodka sauce. That was perfectly cooked and delicious. I got the chicken Positsno which was spaghetti with a tomato cream sauce a pan seared chicken breast, Roma tomatoes, cheese and some fresh basil. I tasted a hint of lemon which was probably used when they sautéed the chicken. It was phenomenal. The only thing I would say it was a biton the salty side but I seem to feel that way about most restaurants so it could just be me. All in all it was avery good experience. I will be returning again and again and again.

Us and in-laws ate here last Friday. We made reservations and asked for the most quiet spot available, (for my father-in-law :) We were seated right away and then the "fun" began... The live music was a DISASTER! there was a man playing the base and a lady playing the keyboard, as if they were both doing solos, BUT AT THE SAME TIME!..and they tried to call it Jazz. It was horrible and loud. The crowd was all over 65yo. There was even one guy who tried to use the kitchen as the bathroom! It was like a nursing home, gone crazy. I got the pasta and seafood, it was good, not the freshest, but eatable. Hubby and MIL got chicken parm. They kept adding salt and using my sauce, just to get it down. FIL ordered the lassagna, he said "we eat better at home." It was so loud we yelled over the music at first, then kinda gave up and just ate, and left. The wait staff was a bunch teenage boys who didn't have a clue how to wait tables. One brought us bread, no butter, no oil, nada! The next one tried to bring out dinner with dirty salad and bread plates taking up our entire, RIDICULOUSLY TINY, table. I had to tell him "No, please take "these" plates before you try and bring "even more plates." Later, as they collected the dinner plates, they dropped a lasagna covered forlk, on my MIL's skirt. ALMOST FORGOT: In the middle of dinner the hostess/owner (idk) came over and asked how it was and thanked us for coming in. It wasn't What she said, but How she said it. She was SO AWKWARD, we all stared at each other after she left, like WTH just happened with that weird one...we still are still not sure what that was. Wont be back here.

pretentiously "high-class" in a strip mall. rude bartender. felt prejudiced, stuffy. didn't care to stay to experience the rest. waited forever for menus. asked for menus and was told to wait. 15 minutes after being sat, there we sat, and sat and sat and sat... not a single hint of service, not even a bread basket or water. wtf? i guess we didn't fit the senior profile. i know its Florida, but it felt like a night life lounge for the elderly. we stood up and left and in THAT process was blitzed by the hostess and front of house manager, pleading with us to stay. we didn't

Great experience came here with a group of family and friends they accommodated all of 19 of us no question asked. I called ahead only two days before the expected date made the reservations and had better than great service. We love jazz so they put us in a room close to the music but far enough so we could talk. The staff was prompt and courteous. So to the food I got the roasted Beet and aragula salad , yum. My mom got the braised short ribs for dinner they were fork tender and full of flavor. Wish I had taken pictures we will be back for sure.

Loved the Gnocci Bolognese here . U can't just order that dish in any Italian restaurant, I would recommend it here. They were very tender and had good flavor. Plentiful portion. I just wish they offered this dish a different way besides with meat sauce

I wanted to wait to post this review after a second visit to be sure the vibe I was picking up on was genuine. Great little neighborhood spot to unwind after a stressful day. Easy, non-pretentious, unlike Wild Fish next door (in fact, I stumbled in here after being told of a 90 minute wait there). Friendly service, AWESOME early bird specials (short 90 minute window from 4-5:30, so hustle), great drink specials with a lovely house Pinot, classy, crusty bread with oil and a lovely, intimate atmosphere. HIGHLY recommend the eggplant parm, baked ziti, and sausage & peppers. Two of us ate, drank, and tipped well for under $45. What a delight to find this gem after struggling to find anything like it in St Pete. Absolutely our new italian go-to joint.

BF and I ate here last night while visiting from Calif. We picked this place based on Yelp reviews. What a Perfect find! The place is cute, a neighborhood gem, romantic but also a great setting for a family meal. We were able to score off the Early Bird/Dinner special. The service was prompt and the wait staff friendly. Our dinner began with delish French bread accompanied with good olive oil. My love had the mushroom soup, I had the house salad with their scrumptious house dressing. I ordered the Bolgenese sauce with angel hair pasta. It was good but needed a little extra flavor. I had the waitress bring out some balsamic vinegar. I added about a teaspoon to the pasta and mixed well. Omg, it really enhanced the flavor. Peter had the Fruita Del Mar with a light Blanco Sauce. Very subtle delicious flavor. Seafood was really fresh. For dessert we shared the Lemoncello cheesecake. Wow!!!! Spectacular. I will return. Kudos for a job well done.

Came for Friday date night and lighting perfect, live music perfect, service perfect, gluten free vodka penne perfect didn't even taste gluten free and flourless gluten free chocolate dessert perfect not too rich. You can go to more expensive snobby places but it won't beat this place it's amazing.

We had a wonderful time celebrating my husband's birthday. Both meals were delicious. We treated ourselves to dessert. He had the ginger snap gelato and I had the tiramisu. Worth every calorie. Most people were wearing jeans and shorts so no need to dress up. We have put this on our "go to" list.

Visited again last night for Valentines day. Food definitely wasn't as good as our first visit. Our server was friendly, he recommended the stuffed mushroom appetizer....it was disappointing, served very wet in a puddle of goo with soft melted cheese on top. I'v never seen stuffed mushrooms served like this before. Typically stuffed mushrooms don't have too many wet or soft ingredients because of all the water in the mushroom, it kinda gets messy when it's baked and/or broiled. This was a disappointment, I would skip this choice. We left most of it and went on to eat our unspectacular entrées. Veal Marsala was ok, shrimp fra diavlo was more like marinara, zero spice...bummer. On our last visit we really had a great experience, I'm not sure if we just made poor menu choices this time or what. We also waited a exceptionally long time to pay our check, but this can be overlooked because it was a very busy holiday evening.

We just had my family birthday dinner here. I chose it by visiting online and I was not disappointed at all. The stuffed mushrooms were so good, I'm still talking about them. The gnocchi was amazing as well as the veal Marsala. I can't wait to go back!

SORRY, I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE LISTING FOR CARRABBA'S IN PALM HARBOR! I've never been here so I can't review this restaurant but I l also am unable to delete a review, so I'll give this four stars as it seems most reviewers did. Sorry.

My parents introduced me to this place and I'm glad they did! I moved to Florida about 6 months ago from the NYC area and finding good Italian food has been difficult...until I went here! The menu is wonderful and haven't had a bad meal yet. Service has always been great, especially from the owner, who is always there with a smile asking how everything is. I have since moved a little farther from Palm Harbor but will gladly make the trek to eat here again.

The service was good but disappointed with the food, especially the entrees. No where near as good as Casa Ludivico and others around Palm harbor /Dunedin . The antipasta plate appetizer is very good though

  • Ming Z.

If this is a contest between Carrabba's and Positano's, I will pick the former for just two reasons, the atmosphere that is always full of life and same quality food with less cost. Positano, however, is a very reliable destination for friends, family gathering at a quite and intimate surrounding. Meet a friend at the bar after work to have a drink and chat is a cheerful ending of a busy working day, and Positano's has its happy hour offers just for that. Or, the brick oven pizza gives you the punch you need to ease the hunger, then sit down and relax with a glass of Chianti and wait for the moment to devour. For us, we started with antipasta which was a great idea but the generous portion and delicious cold cuts filled us up quickly. Home made olive dipping was another addicting item on the table that kept my arm busy. When main course arrived, we had almost lost our appetite. We both ordered veal dish. My Veal Abruzzi has rich mushroom sauce serve with flat pasta. Size of the veal is reasonable for me but hubby could have more. He ordered Veal Arrabiata that comes with tomato sauce. Both dishes were well prepared and fairly presented. Flavor is above average but could have been better. Service is standard. Fair to say, this is really not a bad restaurant at all. Again, for me, I'd rather diner at an energetic Italian restaurant that very much reflects the character of those passionate Italian folks. It will cheer me up.

Birthday celebration on Sunday evening was disappointing. Service was poor. Wait for dinner after being seated was over 1 hour. Once entrees arrived all were below average. Manager was informed and did little to compensate. Will not return to this restaurant.

the hostess was very rude. we complained about our second drinks being weak. rather than just have new drinks made for us (8:00 drinks) she chose to argue that the drinks were the same. mussels were disappointment. brought out a saucer with a dozen small mussels. wont go back,

This place is great took my family in when they were in town the service was attentive thefood was great I had the chicken parm it was really solid everything on the menu was fresh & really good. The bartender joe made my mom an after dinner drunk & she loved it I will definitely be back

  • Jade S.

Super great service and the pasta is delish! My only recommendation to the chef would be to please grill the chicken that you put on the pasta (instead of baking it or boiling it or however it is prepared) and crumble the sausage instead of slicing it. Otherwise I would give the restaurant five stars. Truly, this is a wonderful neighborhood Italian restaurant and you won't be disappointed!

As very picky Italian eaters, we were very pleased to find Positano's. It has become one of our favorite restaurants, and we dine here regularly. Although the restaurant has changed owners, the original owner was from Italy and the menu has not changed, lots of traditional fare and some delicious specialties. We have not noticed a change in the quality of the food either, which is excellent. As noted by a previous reviewer, the fiocchi are superb. We really have not had a bad meal there. Everything is very good, and freshly made to order. The staff is so nice, too. Also, they are planning to expand by adding a pizza oven. Save room for a cappaccino!

I ate at Positano's last night after finding it here on Yelp. I'm visiting family in Palm Harbor but grew up and live in New York City. To say that I love Italian food would be a bit of an understatement, and coming from NYC, i would have to call myself a bit of a food snob. All I can say is that i wish all of the Italian restaurants in NY were as good as Positano's! The staff were all super nice and helpful and the food was amazing. Thought is given to every aspect of the meal. Warm bread, garlic butter, delicious soup, etc.... Everything was great. The host/ owner made sure to visit every table and make sure that everyone was enjoying their food. You know you're in a good place when all you hear coming from every other table is how good everything tastes. Recommendations: caprese salad, cream of mushroom soup, chicken saltimboca, and tiramisu, but im sure everything is delicious!

The best Italian restaurant around the Tampa bay area. Always delicious!

  • David M.

Yelp food question of the day: How does 4 = 3+? Answer: when your nice server forgets to tell you there are specials (that you later hear about and which sound deeeelicious). Otherwise, an excellent meal in this new owner / old staff spot on Tampa Rd just east of the 19. Best dish--something they call the fiocchi--little pasta packages of pear and 4 different cheeses in a butter, garlic, rosemary drizzle. Both unusual and scrumptious. Also a wonderful double pork chop stuffed with Italian sausage and mushrooms in a sherry sauce that couldn't be beat. Finished with a very good homemade Tiramisu. All in all well worth your visit, especially during happy hour where the wines are 2 for 1!

I travel a lot and have dinner in this area almost every night. I grew up in Connecticut where there is a large Italian population, bottom line, I know good Italian food and this is not it. Not bad but not great and pretty expensive. The atmosphere is more diner like than a restaurant, the only plus was the service which was very good.

  • Carrie F.

The food was okay, I have had better. The only vegetarian option was eggplant or alfredo. I will not be going back only because almost everything has meat. When I asked if they could leave the meat out of the vodka sauce I was told no. Well that was enough for me never to go back.

Positano is no doubt one of the best restaurants in North Pinellas, maybe even the best. In an area overwhelmed by chains, Positano is a refreshing change. My parents are regulars here and so are all their friends. Whenever I am in town for a visit, we always stop by. Service is excellent, and the owner always comes by the table to say hello and chat. The appetizer platter for two is the perfect starter, but watch out because it is a LOT of food! It includes a generous helping of their Fried Calamari, Clams Marechiara (my fav - baby clams in a garlic, fresh basil and white wine sauce with a touch of marinara), Mozzarella Caprese and Bruschetta Caprese, all for $22. Their Pear Fiocchi is an excellent starter as well, but not on their menu. ALL of their food is delish, but I agree with my dad, the Shrimp Positano is the best. The shrimp are dipped in egg batter, sauteed in wine and served in a marinara, topped with thin slices of ham, tomato, mozzarella and spinach. Almost all entrees are under $20, placing it in the same price range as Carrabba's around the corner. However, after one visit to Positano I don't know who in their right mind wouldn't return. Way more personal and way better food! They just added a wood fired pizza oven and are now open for lunch too. 2 for 1 glasses of house wine every day during happy hour, 4-8pm. All glasses of wine are $8 and bottles go for $29. (They also offer a reserve wine list and have a full bar). There are two separate party rooms in the back, making it a great venue for birthdays, holiday parties or even a rehearsal dinner. As you can tell, I highly recommend!

Absolute infusion of flavors to my taste-buds. Fresh herbs and the Rosemary/Garlic infused dipping oil is unique. The best Italian restaurant in the area. Excellent service and variety of entrees. Huge desserts, the Tiramusu is my favorite.

My husband and I were very pleased by our recent trip to Positano's! We live in the area, and for some reason had not managed to dine there together before. The restaurant itself is clean and welcoming. Their happy hour specials on drinks were fantastic - 2 for 1 house wine was definitely a welcome sight! And as for the food? It was wonderful! Both my husband and I devoured every bite of our entrees (Chicken Abruzzi and Chicken Saltimbocca Alla Romano). I am hoping that we can return with a larger group on our next visit so that we can possibly partake in some appetizers and desserts; we'll be back!

I have to say the food was very good, but I was there with a group of fifty. We had a limited menu to choice from, and coffee and tea was included in our dinner free of charge. When dinner ended we were not asked if we wanted coffee. Although the waitress was told we wanted coffee she just disappeared and when I found the manager, a rather rude woman who's name I didn't get tried to double talk her way out of including it with dinner and no one tried to retify the situation. I will NOT be going back there.

  • Cheryl K.

I ate there with my husband a few nights ago; we live in the area but for some reason had never noticed this restaurant before. It is set in a storefront but the inside is a series of small rooms done in earth tones separated by arches and featuring wood floors. There are some wine specials: the night we visited, they featured two-for-one glasses. Extremely good food, good service, good prices (mostly under $20), nice ambiance and the owners are a lovely couple who were on-site and wanted to make sure everyone was happy and everything ran smoothly. Reservations are a must. We will return.

Absolutely one of the best places to dine. Atmosphere is wonderful, the bar is beautiful and the owners go out of their way to make sure you want to come back again!! Most importantly the food is amazing. Everything is made from scratch and made to order. They have an extensive menu and the portions sizes are perfect. We tried the calamari, stuffed mushrooms, veal, eggplant and chicken. All were delicious and steaming hot when brought to the table. They are now open for lunch, which is a perfect time to give them a try!!

I love this restaurant and try to get there once per week. The food is always great and the atmosphere is pleasant. The owners are always present and go out of their way to make their guests feel welcomed and appreciated. They also feature live music on Friday and Saturday nights. A great place for great Italian food.

  • Tom W.

I love this place. The owner is very nice and the food is top shelf. Most items are less than $20. My favorite is their Shrimp Positano's. We very often dine there on Friday nights as there is always a live jazz group. I always drink Diet Coke however the rest of the group drinks red wine. I believe that most if not all wines are less than $30. a bottle. It worth a try! I would suggest reservations on weekends. Ps I always ask for Julie W. as there are several on the wait staff named Julie.

I have to start by telling you this was my second experience with this restaurant. The first time it was highly recommended by a friend I trust and we didn't want the usuals nearby so we decided to order take out from Positano's. I have to say getting anything to-go changes it a bit. We weren't pleased by this first experience and said we probably wouldn't go back. Well having been scarred by a new Italian restaurant which opened on US 19 in Palm Harbor, we decided to make our Easter reservations at Positano's and give it one more chance in house this time. We had a reservation for 5 at 5:30 on Easter Sunday. We were greeted immediately and sat within seconds. Our server was superb. Just the right amount of attention but not pestering. He even told us to order by the glass for our cocktails because it was happy hour and they were 2 for 1 allowing us to get more than the bottle would have given us. We ordered Clams Oreganata and Calamari for appetizers both were very good. The sauce which is served with the calamari was amazing having a sweet and then spicy back note it was much better than the usual marinara most places serve. The clams were good as well, they were middle-neck so they were the perfect size and tender with lots of flavor everyone enjoyed them. For dinner everyone ordered something different and every meal was more delicious than the next. The men all ordered and finished their entire meals including cleaning the plates of the house salad which was a hit with everyone. My father ordered Veal francese which was so tender it literally melted in your mouth. My brother had chicken marsala with extra mushrooms which they accommodated him with wonderfully. My boyfriend had the chicken parm which he orders everywhere, even some non-italian places we frequent and he finished his dinner before uttering a word (you know it is good when this happens.) Myself and my mother shared the salmon special that night which was rubbed with a sweet and spicy seasoning and served with an orzo salad. All the plates were cleaned as I mentioned before so nothing left over to take home. The only complaint, which I don't even know that I can classify it as a full complaint, is the dessert, everyone ordered something different but none of it was outstanding just average. Ultimately I will recommend this place to anyone looking for good sit down Italian in the area and we will most certainly be back again.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
